The museum’s workshops and crafts

The Bardo mosaics workshop which was created in 1955 collaborated with the Getty Institute (USA) in the beginning of the 1990s within a programme of conservation of the mosaics discovered in Tunisia particularly those that are part of the Bardo collection. Some years ago, it was reinforced by the integration of a group of young restorers who had been formed at the Higher Institute of Heritage Skills (Institut supérieur des métiers du Patrimoine). Helped with trainees and assisted by Arles’ departmental museum technicians (France), this team of restorers is in charge of dismantling and handling mosaics for the new museographic project.
