The so-called ‘Nanny’s Quran’
Origin: Kairouan
Dating: 410 Hijri / 1020 A.D.
Materials: Parchment

This Quran was written in a waqf (mortmain) for the Great Mosque of Kairouan by a certain Fatima who was the nanny of Abu Manad Badis, the third Zirid Emir. It seems that she had been Christian before converting to Islam. The writing of this highly elegant manuscript was largely copied during the Middle Ages.
